Glossary

Incretins – gastrointestinal hormones that stimulate insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells in response to food intake. The two main incretin hormones are glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP). They play a crucial role in regulating blood sugar levels after eating, particularly in type 2 diabetes, by increasing insulin release and suppressing glucagon secretion.
